BRANCH GENERAL MEETING
RAF Digby 3 August 2002
|
|
This meeting was blessed with extremely good
weather unlike last year's. Having said that, a few of the
members had to come through some heavy showers to get here. The day was organised by Dennis Weir, and a good job he did too,
despite a couple of minor hiccups. (Anyone seen a key??) |

|
The meeting itself was held in the Officers'
Mess and was attended by 31 members, both old and new. This number
turned out to be a disappointment, considering that we have over
400 members, but thank s to all who attended. Some had come from
both far and near - from the South coast, from the East Coast and
a few from RAF Digby itself. There was also a good smattering of
members who had just joined. |

The meeting was quite short and followed the normal pattern of reports.
Unfortunately the treasurer, John Farrell, was unable to come to
the meeting , but his report was ably put over by our Secretary,
and the accounts were accepted by the meeting.
This year for the first time we were able to send two delegates
to Annual Conference, held this year in Bridlington. Terry
Whittles, our Vice President and John Clark, our Chairman, both
attended. Terry spoke against three motions, and they were
all lost.
(This means that Terry was successful in voicing
his remarks). The most emotive subject at conference was
the raising of annual subscriptions to £10 per year vice £7.50,
but the motion went through very smoothly If you
would like to read more about conference, see the latest
newsletter when it comes out in September, or click here. |
|
After the meeting we were treated to a presentation on RAF Digby,
a war-time Canadian fighter station, and then we all retired to
the museum which is kept in the war-time operations room. All paid
very close attention to the interesting and informative talk given
by Warrant Officer Dave Curry. |
 |
For the few in number who did not have to rush off, a barbecue was
held in the Sports bar.
All in all it was a very successful day. Thanks to all for attending,
and thanks to all who took part in the arrangements. |

Next meeting is the AGM to be held in
Loughborough on 9/10 November 2002. See you there |
