24127039 CPL PETER CHRISTIE – R SIGNALS OPEW 1971-1976
Introduction by Dennis Weir Corporal Peter (Jock) Christie was a Royal Signals OPEW who served in Berlin in and around 1972/1974. He died tragically young from cancer in 1976. His widow, (now remarried), Margaret has made contact with me via the Wire magazine with a request for historical information about Peter’s career in the Royal Signals and about their time together in Berlin. Her letter to you all is published below. Please try and help her put together this information for her son, Scott. Margaret’s Letter to all her late husband’s friends and colleagues in the Army My name is Margaret and I was married to Peter Christie (24127039) Do you remember Peter or me either from the army training days in Loughborough, when he was on one of his language courses at GCHQ Cheltenham or when we lived in Ahorn Allee in Berlin from 1972 – 1974 approx. when he worked on ‘the hill’? If you did know Peter you will remember that he died in 1976 from cancer. I am asking for your help in compiling a portfolio of stories/anecdotes and pictures to present to our son Scott. Scott had a paragliding accident last year which resulted in him sustaining 3 compressed fractures to his back. It was a frightening incident which made me realise once again how fragile life can be. For many years I have promised myself that I would do something along these lines and I realised life is far too short to keep putting things off. Scott was only 3 and half years old when his father died and I know how much he would value some information on the type of person his father was, as seen through the eyes of his friends and colleagues. So, if you can help in any way I would be extremely grateful. Thanks already to Dennis Weir who has been a great help in distributing this message and enabling you to read it. I can be contacted by post Margaret Hancocks (yes I re-married many years ago) 48 Read Way Bishops Cleeve Cheltenham GL52 8EL Or e-mail – enigma1@blueyonder.co.uk Some photos of Peter and Margaret
